Church Burglarized In South Brunswick; Police Seek Public’s Help

When parishioners arrived for morning mass on Monday, police said they found rooms ransacked, missing collection money and more.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance to help find the suspects of a Christmas week church burglary.

At 7 a.m. on Monday, police said the burglary was discovered at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in the Monmouth Junction section of town when parishioners arrived for morning mass.

According to police, the burglars ransacked several rooms in the church, climbed through the ceiling tiles, smashed sheetrock and pried open closets and drawers.

The suspects also stole the church’s collection money for the past week, police said.

Authorities are currently following several leads in the case, and are asking residents in the area of the church (along Kingston Lane and Georges Road) to review any home surveillance video system footage they may have between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“This is Christmas week, a special time filled with so much excitement,” South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said. “The acts of this suspect are disgraceful. We will use all resources to track this suspect down.”
