Burglar Snags Smokes from Route 1 Gas Station

Burglar passes on money for cigarettes instead.

An early morning burglary at a Route 1 gas station last week didn't result in any lost money, but with the price of cigarettes the burglar's haul may have been more valuable.

At 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, South Brunswick Police responded to the Raceway Gas Station at 4020 Route 1, after the burglar alarm was activated. The first officer to arrive at the scene found a crow bar on the ground with items scattered in the booth near the gas pumps.

Police said the suspects used the crowbar to pry open the door of the booth, allowing them to steal items from the counter.

However, police said they later determined the suspects only made off with two cartons of cigarettes and did not take any money from the register.
