A veteran cop from Mercer County was killed in a fiery crash, and a swimmer was injured when a needlefish stabbed him, authorities said. Here are the headlines from the weekend in the Garden State:

Veteran Cop Killed In Fiery Crash

A veteran Trenton police officer was killed in a crash on I-295 in Westampton Township just before 6 a.m. Sunday morning, New Jersey State Police said.

Timothy Long, 50, from Trenton, was driving a Honda SUV north on I-295. In the area of milepost 45.8, the vehicle lost control, ran off the road and struck a traffic sign and a tree before catching on fire, NJSP said.

2 Women Shot In South Jersey Parking Lot

Police are seeking a shooter who they say injured two women Friday night in the parking lot of a Gloucester County apartment complex.

The victims were shot just before 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the complex at 712 Broadway in Westville, police said. One woman was shot in the abdomen, while the other had a graze wound.

Blaze Rips Through Several Homes In Irvington

A fire ripped through several homes near Avon Avenue and 21st Street in Irvington on Saturday night, according to media reports.

Multiple houses on one end of the block were burning, and a separate home near the end of the street was also on fire, News12 reported.

No injuries were reported.

Woman Stabs Man Outside Wawa In Berlin Township

An Atlantic County woman has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a man outside a Wawa in Berlin Township on Friday, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay said.

On Friday, around 2:43 p.m., Berlin Township Police officers responded to the Wawa on the 400 block of Route 73. On arrival, officers found a 35-year-old Egg Harbor City man suffering from multiple stab wounds in the Wawa parking lot.

He was taken by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

While on scene, officers quickly located the suspect, 36-year-old Kelli Feaster of Egg Harbor City – and took her into custody behind the Wawa. Feaster and the man appear to have been acquainted, MacAulay said.

Feaster was charged with 1st-degree attempted murder, 2nd-degree aggravated assault, 3rd-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and 4th-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. She will be remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.

This investigation is ongoing.
