Dogs Kill Rabid Fox In Monroe Twp.

This past Friday, March 1 someone's two pet dogs killed a fox that turned out to be rabid in a Monroe Township backyard.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — This past Friday, March 1, someone's two pet dogs killed a fox that turned out to be rabid in a Monroe Township backyard, the Middlesex County health department announced.

The fox was killed in the vicinity of Garvey Drive and Spotswood-Gravel Hill Road in Monroe, said county health officials.

On March 1, a Monroe animal control officer responded to a resident's home where a fox was killed by two pet dogs. The fox was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported on Tuesday, March 5 that the fox tested positive for rabies.

No humans were exposed to the rabid fox, and the resident’s dogs are currently up to date on their rabies vaccinations, said the county health department.

This is the first rabid animal reported in Middlesex County for 2019.
