1. What drove you to seek public office?

I have worked for the county government my entire professional career and love to work and help people. I have been retired now for the last two years and found joy in helping residents in our community.

2. What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I believe what sets me apart from other candidates is my perspective. I am an avid traveler who learns by exploring other cultures. The broader perspective I have the more I can relate to and understand the needs of our diverse community. This township has grown significantly, since I moved here in 1980, with people from all walks of life. I think my experiences and perspective have helped contribute to the success of the township and will continue to do so.

3. What, according to you, is the biggest issue facing the township right now?

There are many issues facing townships like ours. Recently, there have been discussions about the growth needs of housing, open space as well as the safety of our residents.

4. The township had to increase taxes due to $1.8 million overspending in the past. What are your plans to ensure no overspending occurs in the future?

“Overspending” is prohibited in state law. Our budget was balanced and was approved by the state. We are not allowed to “overspend”. When we reported, our revenue last year was behind projections, but it was resolved by the end of the fiscal year. In our new budget, we are not increasing any costs except for our collective bargaining responsibilities. We continually review our revenue and spending projections to ensure a balanced budget which we have delivered year after year.

5. Several redevelopment projects are taking place in town. What’s your take on this?

Redevelopment is the lifeblood of any community. Investment in unused properties will drive renewed growth. For example, the superfund site has been redeveloped into warehouse projects which will help with the revenue and protect human health and the environment by cleaning the contaminated sites. These tools the state provides our township allow us to enhance economic growth.

6. Even as recession fears fade, the cost of living continues to be a nationwide problem. What are your plans to keep South Brunswick affordable for young families and seniors?

Our team works very hard to provide a variety of opportunities to have a strong quality of life in South Brunswick. For example, the open spaces and parks/rec programs throughout the year provide enrichment to young children. Our senior center provides significant services for our community, in fact, I attend many of the classes/seminars in the senior center which keep me, and my peers educated in a variety of ways.

7. What is your favorite part about living in South Brunswick?

My favorite part about living in South Brunswick is the diversity that we have created, a strong community due to the diversity of people, thoughts and experiences.

8. Favorite place to visit with family in South Brunswick?

I enjoy Veterans Park, Durga Temple, Slack Carroll House, and the trail systems.
