Middlesex County Teens: Apply To Conservation Corps

Work takes place in Old Bridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick and Monroe from April 18 - June 6, and teens earn $11.50. Apply by Feb. 28.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Teens, are you looking for a great part-time job, a way to help your community and Mother Nature, and something to put on college applications?

Applications are now being accepted for the Middlesex County Youth Conservation Corps for Spring 2020. Their mission is to protect and preserve the more than 8,000 acres of Open Space owned and maintained by Middlesex County.

Work will take place at several Middlesex County Open Space parcels in Old Bridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick and Monroe Townships, as well as other County open space as needed, and workers will earn $11.50 per hour. The hours scheduled will be Saturdays, from April 18 to June 6, 2020 from 9 am to 4 pm.

• At least 16 years of age on start date

Strong, enthusiastic, self-motivated, willing to work and learn as a part of a team

• Willing to get dirty and work outdoors in various weather conditions

• Ability to walk several miles and stand for extended periods of time

• Ability to kneel and lift materials greater than 25 lbs

• Ability to use a variety of hand tools

• Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions and maps

Activities include trail building, litter clean-up, invasive species removal and wildlife habitat improvements. Applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated and willing to work and learn as a part of a team. Also, applicants must have the capacity to walk several miles and stand for extended periods of time, the willingness to get dirty and work outdoors in various weather conditions and the ability to use various hand tools.
