Police Release New Details In Uber, Dump Truck Crash In South Brunswick

The crash left the Uber driver in critical condition and the passenger suffered significant injuries, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — On Thursday, South Brunswick Police released additional details on the crash involving an Uber and dump truck.

On Wednesday, shortly after 6:50 a.m., a 2009 Ford, driven by a 54-year-old man from North Brunswick working as an Uber driver, was traveling in the left lane of southbound Route 1 and was approaching New Road, when the driver abruptly changed lanes, police said.

The car struck a 2001 Mack dump truck stopped in traffic, which was being operated by a 52-year-old South Brunswick man. The crash left the Uber driver in critical condition with serious injuries, police said. His passenger, a 64-year-old woman from Franklin Park who was sitting in the back seat, suffered significant injuries.

The driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries.

The Uber driver and passenger were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by ambulance, police said.

Due to the severity of the crash, Route 1 southbound was closed for several hours, causing significant traffic congestion in the area.
