Operation Safe Schools 2024 Begins In South Brunswick

Under the program, officers will be placed at every school at the start and end of the day.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – As schools begin preparation to open for a new academic year, South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced the beginning of 2024 Operation Safe Schools.

As students head back to school, police will enhance their presence around all schools and school zones.

The program will place officers at every school - public and private - in the district at the start and end of the school day. More than a dozen officers will be dedicated to the operation, Hayducka said.

The Police Department is reminding motorists to add additional time for morning commutes. Students from South Brunswick Public School will return to classrooms on Thursday, September 5.

The peak traffic impact time will be at the start and end of the school days.

There will be nearly 8,000 students entering schools between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. The dismissals at the schools are between 2:20 p.m. to 3:35 p.m.

Usually, it takes a few days for people to adjust to buses and parents dropping off students. Drivers should allow for added time in the first few days of the school year.
