Police Capture Wanted Fugitive in Stolen Car

Police apprehend fugitive wanted on burglary charges.

An alert South Brunswick Police officer was able to locate a stolen car and capture a wanted fugitive early Wednesday morning at a Route 1 motel.

Shortly after midnight, Officer Timothy Hoover was on patrol at the LaMirage Motel on Route 1 when he saw a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Hoover checked the vehicle’s license plate and found the 2000 Neon had been stolen from New Brunswick last week.

Sitting in the vehicle was Jimmie Edward Brooks, 46, who was found to be wanted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on burglary charges, in addition to outstanding traffic warrants from Highland Park and Montgomery Township. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of heroin, according to police.

Brooks was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He is being lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $20,000 bail for the South Brunswick charges and $50,000 for the Middlesex County charges.
