Police Investigating Shooting Incident at Rutgers

The New Brunswick Police Department is currently investigating an incident involving a fired weapon at Rutgers University.

The New Brunswick Police Department is investigating an incident involving a fired gun, which was reported to have occurred on Sunday near Rutgers University.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Hamilton Street, near the intersection with High Street in New Brunswick, according to Rutgers University Police Chief Kenneth Cop.

Witnesses reported observing a physical altercation in the street, and that one of the participants fired a weapon into the air. Upon the arrival of officers from the New Brunswick Police Department, all of the participants had fled the area, according to Chief Cop.

There were no reported injuries, but the New Brunswick Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, is asked to contact the New Brunswick Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 732-745-5216.

The perpetrator who fired a weapon was described as a male wearing a white t-shirt, who was reported by witnesses to have fled from the area of Hamilton Street towards Louis Street in a white vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord.

The Rutgers University Police Department would also like to remind residents, students, and visitors of precautions that can be taken in order to reduce the chance of becoming a crime victim.
