Portion Of Rt.1 In South Brunswick To Be Closed For Several Months: NJ DOT

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A portion of Route 1 southbound in South Brunswick is scheduled to have daytime and overnight closures beginning Wednesday, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJ DOT) .
The right shoulder closures is from CR 522/Promenade Boulevard/Stouts Lane in South Brunswick to Thomas Avenue in North Brunswick as a Hard Shoulder Running project begins in Middlesex County, NJ DOT said.
These closures are expected to take place over the next several months, NJ DOT said.

This work is part of the $6.6 million state-funded Route 1 Hard Shoulder Running pilot project.
The project will widen, as well as mill and pave, the right shoulder on Route 1 so that it can be used as a travel lane during designated times to improve safety and relieve congestion on Route 1 in Middlesex County.

Additionally, the project will repair curb and drainage inlets. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
Daytime Shoulder Closures
From 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, and again on Thursday and Friday at the same time, the right shoulder on Route 1 southbound is scheduled to be closed between CR 522/Promenade Boulevard/Stouts Lane and Thomas Avenue. The shoulder closures are necessary for curb and drainage inlet repairs.
Overnight Shoulder Closures
Beginning at 9 p.m. June 10, until 6 a.m. June 11, and continuing Monday through Friday nights at the same time through this summer, the right shoulder on Route 1 southbound is scheduled to be closed between CR 522/Promenade Boulevard/Stouts Lane and Thomas Avenue.
The shoulder closures are necessary for widening, milling and paving.
