Several Infrastructure Projects Underway In South Brunswick. Here's A List

The projects are being undertaken to ensure the quality of roads, drinking water, and sewer utility.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – 2024 is going to be a busy year in South Brunswick, with several constructions happening across towns.

From road improvements to building construction, infrastructure projects are being undertaken to ensure the quality of roads, drinking water, and sewer utility.

“Undeniably, there is some inconvenience for residents, but it is important to continually maintain our roads and utilities,” Mayor Charlie Carley said in a statement. “South Brunswick has long been dedicated to assuring clean drinking water and a good roadway network.”

Here’s a list of current Township projects:

  • Williams Road and Roberts Street Roadway Improvements: This road improvement project in Kendall Park is completed.
  • Fresh Impressions Neighborhood Improvements - Phase 2: This road improvement project in Monmouth Junction is completed.
  • Improvements to New Road – Phase 2: The contractor will complete the water distribution system tie-ins of adjacent roadways to the new water main this week. Sanitary sewer main improvements, storm sewer improvements & concrete work are scheduled to begin soon.
  • Improvements to Route 522 – at Route 130 and Friendship Road: The contractor is awaiting the installation of an electric meter by PSE&G before new traffic signals can become operational. The contractor will complete roadway improvements once new signals are operational.
  • Freedom Trail Bikeway Improvements: The base paving for the bikeway is complete and the contractor has installed new pedestrian crossing signals. Final paving of the bikeway is to be undertaken soon.
  • Fresh Impressions Neighborhood Improvements - Phase 3: Plans and specifications have been completed with utility & road improvements construction scheduled to begin in October 2024.
  • Timber Ponds Neighborhood Improvements - Phase 3: Plans and specifications have been completed with utility & road improvements construction scheduled to begin in October 2024.
  • Wetherhill Neighborhood Improvements - Phase 1: Plans and specifications are being prepared with construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2025.
  • Improvements to Benson Road, Dillon Road and Tyne Court: Plans and specifications are being prepared with construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2025.
  • Sand Hill Road from Old Beekman to Hawthorne Road: Paving project has been completed.
  • Fresh Ponds Road from Davidson Mill Road to East Brunswick border: The paving project has been completed.
  • Library Expansion Project: Activity onsite has moved toward the expansion of the building footprint. Footings and foundation walls have been constructed, as well as the elevator shaft. Upcoming work will include the excavation of the storm basins.
  • Villagio Drainage Improvements: To date, the contractor is close to fifty percent complete for the proposed drainage improvements. The scope of work consists mainly of regrading existing drainage swales to provide proper drainage and installing an underdrain conduit to assist in problematic drainage areas.

There are also projects under the supervision of Middlesex County and NJ Department of Transportation in South Brunswick.

These include the Henderson Road culverts replacement project; Kory Drive with Finnegans Lane signalization; and pavement improvements to Route 1 intersections.
