South Brunswick Buys 207 Acres Of Woodlands For Open Space

The township purchased the site informally known as the Mindel property.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - South Brunswick recently purchased 207 acres of wooded lands to add to its existing open space inventory.

The property, known as the Mindel property, is bound by Route 1 and Northumberland Way to the west and east, and Major Road and New Road from the north and south. The land is notable for old-growth woodlands and streams that feed the headwaters to drinking water sources.

Since 2019, the Township and its partners in Middlesex County and NJ State government have permanently preserved over 390 acres to add to the 2,000+ acres of protected natural and agricultural lands throughout South Brunswick.

“With the purchase of this property, the Township reaffirms its commitment to preserving open space. We’ll continue to preserve lands to limit development and mitigate burdensome effects on traffic and demands for governmental services. Open Space preservation continues to be one of the most significant tools we have to preserving our children’s and grandchildren’s environmental and cultural inheritances,” Mayor Charlie Carley said.

“My Township Council colleagues and I look forward to continuing our efforts toward identifying and preserving additional lands in the months and years ahead.”
