SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Township is considering an ordinance aimed at selling a property it earlier acquired for creating a public space.

The property located at 784 Ridge Road was acquired by South Brunswick with the intention of renovating/restoring the structure in an historically accurate manner, and creating a public space for use by non-profit organizations to provide services to the community.

However, "it appears that there are no non-profit organizations ready, willing or able to use the property,” according to the ordinance.

“Leaving the structure vacant and unused will be detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of the community since it could lead to damage by vandalism, trespassers, and further deterioration of the structure,” the ordinance says.

The structure is currently in need of immediate repairs and renovation, the Township said.

The property will be sold to the highest qualified bidder and the minimum price has been set at $300,000.

As a condition of the sale, there will be a prohibition on any subdivision of the property to preserve its historic nature and setting.

The ordinance is expected to be introduced at the Council meeting on Wednesday.
