South Brunswick Fire Departments Make the Grade
South Brunswick fire service leadership completes hazardous materials on-scene commander course.

Line Officers from the three South Brunswick Fire Departments completed the Hazardous Materials On-Scene Commanders Course presented by the New Jersey State Police, Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HMRU).
Seven officers from the Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park and Kingston Fire Departments completed the 24-hour course, which was hosted by Chief Scott Smith of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department. The course is designed to provide instruction on the response actions and safe practices associated with commanding a hazardous materials incident.
This course meets or exceeds all the requirements of Federal Law 29 CFR 1910.120, the OSHA HAZWOPER or Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response regulations.

“I would like to extend our thanks to the members of the New Jersey State Police HMRU for scheduling this course for our officers” said Lloyd Mathis, Chief of the Kingston Fire Company and the Chair of the South Brunswick Fire Chief’s Association.
“Chief Chris Perez of the Kendall Park Fire Department, Chief Smith and I continue to work collectively to train our individual departments with one common goal; to protect the residents of the township. We hope to have the remaining line officers in all three departments trained to this level before the end of the year.”
