South Brunswick Girls Volleyball Beat JP Stevens In Exciting Game
SBHS won both sets in the away game at JP Stevens
South Brunswick High School Girls volleyball won over J.P. Stevens High School in an exciting match-up, in Edison on Tuesday.
The Vikings easily beat the Hawks in the first set 25-13, but the second set put fans of both teams on the edge of their seats. The mostly full gym, split evenly between South Brunswick fans and JPS fans, cheered nearly the entire time, as the score stayed even for the majority of the match. SBHS junior varsity and freshman teams were extremely vocal in supporting their varsity players.
After multiple service errors by the Hawks, the Vikings pulled ahead in the last few minutes of the game for an exciting 25-21 win. Kelly Matuszewski played particularly well, with two aces, five kills and one dig. Olivia Gonzalez, Samantha Knehr and Danielle Peterson also contributed kills for the Vikings, and Lindsay Szucs had an impressive eight assists.

Although the Hawks were disappointed, they are not going to let this loss discourage them.
"As a team we definitely have a lot to improve on," Hawks varsity captain and senior player Jen Lazarowitz told Patch. "I think we need to communicate more on the court and relax, the rest will come with practice."

The Vikings are 2-1 for the season so far. They take on Perth Amboy at home on Sept. 20 at 5:15 PM.
