SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - South Brunswick dedicated a street sign on Saturday honoring Louis E. Pietrefesa, a World War II Army veteran who served with distinction in Europe.

The ceremony took place at the corner of Georges Road and Sarah Court, where four generations of the Pietrefesa family joined Township officials to celebrate "Uncle Louie's" life and legacy.

Born in 1922 in the Deans section of South Brunswick, Pietrefesa enlisted in October 1942 and was stationed at Fort Monmouth before deploying overseas. He entered the European theater through Normandy Beach, where he served in a medical unit maintaining rescue vehicles and helping transport wounded soldiers from the front lines.

His service extended into Holland, where he remained until the war's end.

Pietrefesa was honorably discharged in January 1946 and received multiple honors, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars. He also earned the Driver and Mechanic Badge with "Mechanic" clasp.

After the war, Pietrefesa remained a lifelong South Brunswick resident and continued serving fellow veterans as a member of American Legion Post 401.

"By adding Louis E. Pietrefesa's name to our Veteran Street Sign Program, we honor not only his bravery and sacrifice, but also his deep roots in South Brunswick," Mayor Charlie Carley said. “His story will continue to inspire generations in our community.”
