Willows Swim Team Begins New Season

On June 22, the Willows swim team started their 2013 season competing in the extremely competitive “A” league.  

First they traveled to Hillsborough to swim against Roycefield.  While the Rapids proved too tough for the Willows, they did have many swimmers place in the top three.  Days later, the Willows attempted to get a swim meet in at Cedar Hill Swim Club, only to have the rain and thunder stop the meet after the 11th event.

On June 29, the Willows fell to the Cranford Gators. However, the Willows 8/u girls 100 meter medley relay broke the club record by 4 seconds. The following Saturday, they traveled to South Amboy to swim against Frog Hollow. Again, the A league proved to be tough competition for the young Willows team.

The Willows are excited with their team of coaches this season.  Co-Head coaching is Kevin Atkinson.  Kevin is a veteran Willows club member, lifeguard and swimmer.  He also swam on the Willows for over 10 years. In addition, Kevin swam competitively for the South Brunswick High School, as well as RVY Riptide, where he was captain of one of their teams.  He is entering his sophomore year at High Point University, in North Carolina.

The other Co-Head Coach is Calvin Chiu. Calvin also has extensive swimming experience.  He is a 10-year USA swimmer for teams X-cel and Princeton Tigers.  He also swam at SBHS, where he captained and was a GMC champion. He has six years of experience with small group coaching.  He is entering his junior year at the University of Michigan where he is studying Mechanical Engineering.
