South Brunswick Pays Tribute: WWII Veteran Murray Tuckman Gets Street Named In His Honor

The intersection of New Road and Wheeler Road in Kendall Park was designated as Tuckman Lane.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – World War II Veteran Murray Tuckman was honored by South Brunswick Township for his service to the nation.

On Saturday, family, close friends and well-wishers were present for the street sign dedication ceremony.

The intersection of New Road and Wheeler Road in Kendall Park was designated as Tuckman Lane to honor of the veteran.

Tuckman enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces at the age of 18 in March 1943. Technical Sergeant Tuckman served as a flight engineer and top gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator Bomber.

He fought in hundreds of missions during the Allies’ Combined Bomber Offensive to free Europe.

He earned the European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, Four Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, One Overseas Bar, and the Aerial Gunners Badge.

Tuckman was honorably discharged from military service in 1945.

Born in the Bronx, New York in May 1924, Tuckman and his family moved to Kendall Park after the war. Tuckman passed in 2010, and his wife Toby still resides in their home.

Mayor Charlie Carley, Deputy Mayor Ken Bierman, VFW Post 9111 Commander Emeritus Bob Kelly, and the South Brunswick Police Honor Guard were present at the ceremony honoring Technical Sergeant Tuckman for his distinguished and enduring service to the nation and the town.
