2 Brothers Arrested After Drug Bust In South Orange: Police

South Orange police launched the sting after getting a tip, receiving help from their peers in Millburn and Orange, authorities said.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Two brothers in South Orange were arrested this week after police found a large quantity of marijuana and other drugs during a raid at a home on Academy Street, authorities said.

According to the South Orange Police Department, officers carried out a search warrant at 6 a.m. on Wednesday with assistance from their peers in Orange and Millburn.

Police seized more than four and a half pounds of marijuana, mushrooms, cannabis edibles and 956ml of Promethazine syrup, as well as $982 in cash, grow equipment and packaging material.

Police launched the sting operation after getting a tip that triggered an investigation, getting guidance from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office along the way. Detectives conducted multiple hours of surveillance on the home over multiple days, witnessing “hand to hand transactions” on multiple occasions, authorities said.

During the raid, police from Millburn used drones to provide an overhead view of the house. Meanwhile, police from Orange supported the search with a drug-sniffing K9 dog.

Nobody was injured while executing the search warrant, police said.

Authorities charged Idris Carter, 24, and his brother, Zakee Moxey, 23, of South Orange, with offenses that include possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute a prescription legend drug, distribution of psilocybin (mushrooms) a schedule I narcotic drug, possession of paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and conspiracy charges.
