Become a Certified Babysitter at the South Mountain YMCA

Is your teen looking to make some extra money? Help him or her become a Red Cross certified babysitter by enrolling in this course!

The South Mountain YMCA will be offering an American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course. It will be give 11-15 year olds the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school-age children.

The course will be held on Saturday December 13 from 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. and fees are $120 for Y-members and $160 for non-members, no refunds will be given. The course will be held at the South Mountain YMCA located at 13 Jefferson Ave in Maplewood, NJ. Materials, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Training will consist of videos, activities, and hands-on skill training and discussions. The course teaches how to respond to emergencies,illnesses, first aid, rescue breathing, appropriate care of children, decision-making skills, and child development. Each individual who successfully completes the course will receive an American Red Cross Certification Card.

The South Mountain YMCA offers babysitting events (PNO) for their members once a month on Saturday evenings. All certified babysitters are encouraged to volunteer to gain babysitting experience for their resume. There is always a need for volunteers and future YMCA staff and the course will help prepare young adults for both. Early registration is strongly advised.
