Burglary, Attempted Burglary Reported In South Orange: Police

SOPD: A local business was recently burglarized. An attempted burglary was foiled by barking dogs.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — A local business was recently burglarized in South Orange, authorities say.

According to the South Orange Police Department, officers got a call from a South Orange Avenue resident on Jan. 12.

The caller said they heard loud shuffling outside, and when they looked out the window, they saw that Pirate’s One Stop Shop had a broken front door.

The witness then saw a person run out of the store and get into the passenger seat of a large, white van parked outside. The vehicle then drove away west on South Orange Avenue, they said.

Video surveillance shows a male suspect in a black sweatshirt at the scene. South Orange detectives are investigating, police said.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

An attempted burglary was also recently reported in the township, police said.

The South Orange Police Department released the following details about the incident, which took place on Jan. 30:

“The SOPD received a call from a resident on Montrose Avenue. The resident stated that they have video of two men attempting to enter his residence. The two men are described as wearing hooded sweaters and gloves. The video shows these two men attempting to enter through one of the resident’s windows, when they fled from the sound of barking dogs.”

The video has been sent to the detective bureau and they are actively investigating the incident, police said.
