ROSELLE, NJ — A youth soccer coach was arrested for assaulting a player on the opposing team during a match at Warinanco Sports Center in Roselle, Union County officials said.
Gustavo Rosas Plata, of North Plainfield, was charged on Nov. 18 with fourth-degree simple assault (in the presence of a child under 16 years of age at a school or community-sponsored youth sports event) in connection to a game he coached for North Plainfield Soccer Elite.
The alleged assault came from a report that was filed on Oct. 19 that said Plata kicked a player from Elizabeth Youth Soccer after they fell on the ground while making a play near the sideline that day.
