Police Blotter: Armed Robbery and Alcohol Arrests

A look at recent police activity

*Darren Hunt, 22, of East Orange, was arrested on April 10 for armed robbery on Fairview Ave. At 12:05 a.m., a resident pulled into her driveway and was approached from behind by a man. He stuck something to her face that she believed to be a gun. The victim screamed and scratched him as she fled toward her home.

At that point she noticed a second man standing by her vehicle. Both men fled towards South Orange Ave. The victim described the actors as two black males both wearing jeans, one had on a red cap and the other actor was carrying a red backpack. Officers pursued men who matched that description;  Darren Hunt was apprehended and positively identified by the victim. 

The second subject is still at large.

*A Holland Rd. resident working in his front yard on April 10 at approximately 5:30p.m. reported that four juveniles shouted at him, "You better keep your head down or we're gonna kill you." The juveniles, described as black males, two on bicycles, began throwing rocks at the victim.

Officers arriving on the scene discovered a group of juveniles matching the description. All juveniles were positively identified by the victim and subsequently arrested at the scene for assault.

*A Parsippamy N.J. resident stated that on April 8 at approximately 4:05 p.m. he was robbed of an Apple Ipad after he was struck in the head.

The victim stated that he had posted the item for sale on Craigslist and had gone to Stanley Rd. in South Orange to make the sale. As the victim was walking down the street he was approached by a black male approximately 18-20 years of age wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The actor then struck the victim in the head with a white stick and fled the scene with the victim's Ipad. The victim stated that when he fell to the ground he observed a handgun in the actor's waistband. The victim stated that the actor fled through the backyards of Stanley Rd. toward Newark accompanied by two other black males. 

*A Clifton N.J. resident stated that on April 9 at approximately 10:30 p.m. he left his car, a 1997 Mercury, running while he ran into a pizzeria on Valley St. When he returned a few minutes later he discovered it had been stolen. 

*Tyler Naumann, a 19, and Jonathan Ropson, 18, both Seton Hall University students, were arrested on April 8 at approximately 8:40 p.m. after they were observed to be in possession of alcoholic beverages  from Kysoki Liquors on South Orange Ave. They are under legal age for buying or consuming alcohol. 

*Peter Mongiove, 20, and Michael Maiorano, ago unknown, both Seton Hall university students, were arrested for underage possession after they were observed exiting A&D deli in on Valley St. in possession of alcoholic beverages. 

*James Rooney, 20 a Seton Hall student, was arrested on April 10  at 2:20a.m. after he was observed writing graffiti on a traffic control box on Ward Pl. 

*Lonnie Askew,  39, of South Orange, was arrested on April 9  for burglary after he was observed entering a basement window to an apartment complex on Irvington Ave. 

*Darren Blackman, 25, of Orange, was arrested on April 8 after he was stopped for making a motor vehicle violation. During the roadside field interview it was discovered that the subject had been operating his vehicle while intoxicated. 

*Olivia Goldstein, 18, of  Maplewood, was arrested on April 7 for underage possession of alcohol after she was observed exiting A&D liquors on Valley St. carrying two alcoholic beverages. 

*Matthew Bryant, 20, of New Hartford N.Y. was arrested on April 7 for underage possession of alcohol after he was observed exiting A&D liquors on Valley St carrying alcoholic beverages.
