Reward for Information in Barron Weir Murder

Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects wanted in the , who was shot in the Vailsburg section of Newark.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the Crimestoppers program would pay up to $5,000 for information surrounding the murder of  Weir, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and torso on September 21, 2010 at 8:30 p.m.  The homicide occurred on Salem Street near the intersection of South Orange Avenue.

Fontoura described the victim as a graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Hampton University in Virginia.

“By all accounts, Mr. Weir was an extremely kind and generous individual who had until the time of his death worked as a summer counselor at a local day care center,” Fontoura noted.

, friends and family remembered Weir, often known as "Barry," as a "gentleman" and an "athlete." Raised in South Orange, where he lived at his death, the 2001 CHS graduate was recalled as an avid tennis player. He played both in South Orange and at Hampton, where he was in the graduating class of 2005.
