Trio Arrested For Package Thefts: South Orange Police

Evette Simpson, Sakina Hutchins and Ezeria Williams were caught following a UPS truck, police said.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Three people were arrested with stolen packages in their car after a video surveillance tip alerted police to their presence on July 9, according to officials.

Authorities said a resident from Halsey Place notified South Orange Police that he saw two women stealing packages left by his front door while he was at work. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Turrell Avenue where they were following a UPS truck, police said. The occupants of the vehicle, Sakina Hutchins, 43, of Newark, Evette Simpson, 50, of Irvington and Ezeria Williams, 48, of Newark, were all placed under arrest, police said.

Inside the vehicle were stolen items from several victims in South Orange, police said.

Williams was charged with four counts of theft and was turned over to the Essex County Sheriff's for an outstanding warrant, while Simpson and Hutchins were also charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property and released pending their Court date, police said.
