Jonathan Dayton High School's Ricci Rajoppi has been voted best girls soccer player in Union County in a poll launched last week by The Star-Ledger.
Garnering 11,945 votes, the senior goalkeeper beat out seven other exceptional players from neighboring high schools.
"I am honored just to be nominated for best player in Union County," Rajoppi said. "The nomination wouldn't have been possible without the support of my team. I want to thank my teammates and coaches for pushing me to be the player I have become today.
"The support I received from friends and family over the last week has been overwhelming," Rajoppi continued. "Thinking back over my last four years of playing soccer for Dayton and being able to compete against all these other amazing girls makes this opportunity even greater.
Dayton's varsity girls soccer team made it all the way to the semifinal round of the the NJSIAA Tournament, North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 this season. Though the team lost to Glen Ridge, 4-0, Monday, Rajoppi made 19 saves.
"We've all been competing for our town and high school and this was a great way for me to end my final season," Rajoppi said.
