'EcoCruise' Planned through Hackensack Meadowlands

Ride will be held June 24.

The following release was submitted by the Friends of the Hackensack River Greenway:

Friends of the Greenway will sponsor an ecological cruise through the Hackensack Meadowlands on Sunday, June 24, beginning at 5:30 pm. The guide will be a member of the staff of the Hackensack Riverkeeper®, which operates the tour.

Friends President Louis Osman reports, “Although much of these wetlands have been developed, the Hackensack Meadowlands remain one of the most interesting saltwater wetlands on the entire Atlantic coast.  There is a tremendous variety of wildlife and plants that are not always so obvious when you’re on one of the many highways that crisscross the area. This is one of our most popular events.  The boat ride consistently gets rave reviews."

The ride (allow two hours) will start from Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus.  Meet at Red Roof Inn, Secaucus. The fee is $20 for Friends of the Greenway members and $25 for non-members.  Because the pontoon boats have a limited capacity, reservations are required (201-833-1717) and include payment in advance.

This is only one of many events organized by the Friends of the Greenway, a grassroots, volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and encouraging the development, maintenance and full use of the Greenway.
