Scattered Power Outages After Storm Hits Bergen County

Teaneck largely unscathed by powerful storms. More than 10,000 PSE&G customers lose power across New Jersey.

Scattered electrical outages were reported in a dozen Bergen County towns after a Thursday night.

According to PSE&G's outage map, up to 2,000 customers were without power across Bergen County late Thursday. Up to 500 Teaneck customers were out when the storm first hit, but service had since been restored in the township.

Outages were also reported in Bogota and Hackensack at the height of the storm. Statewide, more than 10,000 PSE&G customers were without power late Thursday.

"The state’s largest utility has all available personnel and supplies on hand to restore power. Crews will be working through the night," PSE&G said in a statement.

While forecasts warned of damaging winds, large hail and lightning, the area escaped most major storm-related mayhem. Still, local officials took precautions to warn residents ahead of the storms.

In Bergenfield, police used Twitter to advise residents to stay off the roads until the storm had passed. The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management took to Facebook to alert people of the approaching weather.

A quarter-inch of rain fell on Teterboro Airport, according to a report on northjersey.com. The storms traveled from western Pennsylvania to Long Island, WNBC reported.
