Police Charge Two After Customer Nearly Run Over in Teaneck Robbery

Police say customer stepped in front of moving car in attempt to stop escape. Teaneck detectives make two arrests, authorities say.

Teaneck Police arrested two women Thursday linked to the robbery of a CVS, including one who nearly ran down a customer as she fled after pilfering cosmetics from the Queen Anne Road store, authorities said.

A CVS supervisor called police around 9:15 p.m. to report the store’s alarm had been tripped as a woman with a purse left the store, said Detective Lt. Andrew McGurr. The employee yelled at her to stop, but the woman ran off, McGurr said.

The woman, 24-year-old Alexis Walker, got behind the wheel of a red BMW but a customer stepped in front of the car in an attempt to stop her escape, McGurr said. Apparently undeterred, police said Walker drove toward the customer, forcing the shopper to dive for safety.

The customer told police a second woman was in the BMW with Walker, and the store supervisor managed to get the car’s license plate, leading detectives to Walker’s Eliot Court address. The store’s security camera also captured Walker swipe the goods, McGurr said.

On Eliot Court, Teaneck Detective Sgt. Kenneth Egbert spotted another woman, Brionne Everett, who gave false information about the robbery when questioned, McGurr said. Everett was identified by police as Walker’s passenger during the escape.

Detective Gabe Santiago tracked down Walker hiding nearby, McGurr said.

Walker was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree aggravated assault and ordered held on $75,000 bail, with no ten percent option, records show. Although initially reported as shoplifting a $15 item, Walker’s alleged escape brought on the more serious charges.

Everett, 21, a Harlem resident, was charged with hindering Walker’s apprehension and released on a summons.
