Bathroom Fire Quickly Extinguished In Silverton Home
The fire was caused by smoking materials that were not properly discarded, officials said.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — Fire officials issued a reminder to be careful with smoking materials after a fire in the bathroom of a home in the Silverton section on Saturday.
The fire, which was reported about 5 p.m., started in the bathroom of the home on Kettle Creek Road, said Matthew Janora, chief inspector of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.
The Silverton Volunteer Fire Company responded and Assistant Chief Michael Cocco, the first to arrive, found the fire had been quickly extinguished by the residents of the home, Janora said.

There were no injuries reported. The fire did not cause significant structural damage and the property was not deemed unsafe. No utilities were disconnected or involved in the incident, Janora said.
Investigator Kevin Britton with the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention determined the fire was caused by the careless use and discarding of smoking materials, which ignited combustible materials on the windowsill.

The home's residents reported smelling smoke for several minutes before the lower-floor smoke detector alerted them to the fire, Janora said.
