Body In 'Advanced State Of Decomposition' Found After Wellness Check In South Toms River

A haz-mat team responded due to the advanced state of decomposition, the police chief said.

SOUTH TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities found the body of a person in "an advanced state of decomposition" during a wellness check at a South Toms River home on Monday, police confirmed.

South Toms River Police Chief Michael Schneidt did not identify the person who died.

Police conducted the wellness check on Monday afternoon at the home on Flint Road. Reports on local radio scanner sites said multiple agencies responded, including the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation unit and paramedics.

Schneidt said Berkeley Township Haz-Mat also responded for safety reasons, due to the advanced decomposition.

There was no danger to the public at any time, Schneidt said.
