TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Police Department is scheduled to undergo an on-site assessment as it seeks accreditation again, verifying the department meets recognized professional best practices, the department announced.

The accreditation program is administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. It requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas: administrative function, personnel function, operations function, investigative function, and arrestee/detainee function.

Accreditation makes the department eligible for grants and for insurance discounts, according to the chiefs of police association.
