Report: Seaside Heights Among Top Per-Pupil Spending School Districts in N.J.

Brick, Toms River districts both spend below the state's average

The Seaside Heights school district spends the seventh-highest amount per-pupil in New Jersey, a report from NJ.com showed.

The website crunched the numbers of all of the state's school districts and found Seaside Heights, with 170 students and a $5,117,832 budget, spent $30,178 per pupil, making it one of the state's highest-spending districts.

The district has one school, Hugh J. Boyd Elementary, on Bay Boulevard.

The spending figures came from an annual state report, the "Taxpayer’s Guide to Education Spending," available online.

Overall, the report said, the average New Jersey districts spent $18,891 per pupil. The national average is $12,743 per pupil, according to NJ.com.

In comparison, according to the state report, the Toms River district spent $14,549 per pupil in 2013 and the Brick district spent $16,516 per pupil.

The highest-spending district in New Jersey was Avalon, in Cape May County, which spent $43,775 per pupil. The Bergen County Vocational district and the Stone Harbor district rounded out the top three.
