Memorial Day Weekend is still a few days away, but the beach season began at Island Beach State Park this past weekend with Ocean Fun Days and the annual Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament.
Ocean Fun Days, sponsored by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, featured exhibits, fishing seminars, clamming trips – and, of course, crab races. The well-attended event at the park also featured a classic four wheel drive truck from the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association as well as samplings of beach sand from around the world to show the differences between Ocean County and far-off beach communities.
An official announcement of the tournament results from Sunday is forthcoming, and Patch will publish the names of the winners upon confirmation from the state.
