Woman Faces Weapons Charges After Stolen Handgun, Rifle Found In Toms River Home: Police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River woman is facing theft and weapons charges after authorities were called to a home in the township on Sunday, police said Monday.

Britney Garbinski, 35, has been charged with theft, illegal possession of a handgun, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and possession of an assault firearm following the incident at her home on Westfield Drive, police said.

Police were called to the home shortly before 12:30 p.m. for a report of a disorderly person and the person possibly having a weapon, police said.

After police confirmed with a family member that Garbinski was in the house and had weapons, officers got in contact with Garbinski, who admitted having several weapons.

She then directed officers to the weapons, which were in her bedroom, police said.

The firearms police seized included a handgun reported stolen from North Carolina and an "assault-style" rifle, in addition to several high-capacity magazines, police said.

Garbinski was arrested and taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said. She was slated to be taken to the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
