Woman Hit, Killed Crossing Route 166 In Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River woman died on Sunday after she was hit by a car while crossing Route 166, Toms River police said Monday.

Cynthia Ryder, 67, died at Community Medical Center in Toms River from her injuries, police said.

Ryder was crossing from east to west near 1055 Route 166, near Winteringham Village, about 5:40 p.m. when she was hit by a 2015 Hyundai Genesis driven north by Arnita M. Morris, 66, of Whiting, police said.

There are no pedestrian crosswalks in the immediate vicinity of the site where Ryder was crossing.

No summonses have been issued as a result of the crash investigation, police said.

Route 166 was shut down for several hours while the investigation was being conducted, police said.

Toms River Officer Eric Nelson of the Traffic Safety Unit was investigating, assisted by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
