Earthquakes Rattle Morris County Towns - Again

Sunday featured rumbles in one town just three days after a nighttime quake jiggled the area.

BUTLER, N.J. – Sunday was filled with excitement in the Butler and Kinnelon area, just as it was Thursday night, as another earthquake was recorded.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 1.7-magnitude earthquake rattled the area at 10:07 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATE: Another 1.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 7:31 p.m. Sunday in Butler, according to the USGS.

The quake originated some 3.1-miles below the earth’s surface, the organization said. And while the USGS only recorded one earthquake, residents in the area said they felt multiple shakes throughout the day.

Sunday’s quake was slightly stronger than Thursday’s, which came in at a 1.6-magnitude.
