Former Butler Mayor Emering Dies at 63

Viewing Thursday in Wanaque for former councilman, Scout master, mayor.

Charles Anthony Emering, Sr., a former Butler mayor and councilman, died Tuesday at 63.

“He was a good member of the community,” said current Butler Mayor Robert Alviene. “He always wanted to be involved in the town.”

“It was a shock that he was taken so young,” he added. “Our condolences go out to his family.”

Emering was born in Paterson, served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of VFW Post 8096 in Butler, according to his obituary.

He was assistant Scout master for Boy Scout Troop 4 and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Saddle Brook as a safety inspector. In Butler, he served as the Mayor, councilman and board member of the Butler Museum.

He is survived by his wife Judith A.(Lami) Emering of 41 years; his mother Antoinette (Imperato) Emering; children Kristen Bulas and husband Matthew; Charles Jr. and his wife Suzanne; and his siblings, Edward; Anthony and wife Janice; Gene and wife Maria; and Carol Young and husband Al; grandchild Gabriel Blackbird Emering and mother-in-law, Katherine Demarest.

Viewing hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday as well as 7 to 9 p.m. at His Word Ministry, located at 593 Ringwood Ave. in Wanaque. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The entombment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.
