CT Shooting 'Rare and Unusual,' Kinnelon District Says

School district sends message pledging school safety to Kinnelon parents.

The Kinnelon Public Schools district sent a textcaster message to parents Friday afternoon acknowledging and promising parents the district would work to keep Kinnelon students safe.

"We mourn with the students and families in Newtown, CT and can resonate with the extreme anxiety that this type of senseless and violent act can provoke. As horrible as this event is, it was extremely rare and unusual," the district said.

The message continued with a reflection on how the event affects Kinnelon.

"When these tragedies occur we wonder about our own children and community. Please be assured that our schools continue to be a safe and secure with staff well trained in emergency response procedures. We will continue to coordinate our efforts with appropriate local agencies in order to insure a safe and secure educational environment for all members of our school community," the district said.

For parents looking for a way to talk to their children about the shooting or other, similar tragedies, the district has directed parents to the Kinnelon Public Schools website.

"As with any event that may cause anxiety in our community, we will have cousnelors [sic] available in all of our schools for children and staff that need support in processing the events of this day," the district said.
