Tri-Boro Rotary Taking Scholarship Apps From Kinnelon, Butler Seniors

Scholarships offered to local high schoolers moving on to a college or university in the fall.

Tri-Boro Rotary is looking to award scholarships to deserving local high school seniors and currently accepting applications from students from Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale.

Recipients of the scholarship from 2012 include James Reyes, Amanda Hagel and Robert White, according to Tri-Boro Rotarian Ken Bostwick.

Since 1974, Tri-Boro Rotary has awarded more than $800,000 in merit-based scholarships through the program to high school seniors. The money for this particular scholarship, the Charles K. Payne Scholarship, is generated by an initial endowment funded from the estate of Charles K. Payne, according to Brian Bistromowitz, a local Rotarian.

Tri-Boro Rotary assists with other local scholarship programs as well, including the AP Challenge.

"Our club was one of the initial sponsors of the AP Challenge and feel that the Payne scholarships go hand-in-hand with this program as many of the participants in the AP Challenge would be eligible for our awards," Bistromowitz said.

Bostwick said the Payne scholarships are open to all graduating seniors who will be attending a college or university the upcoming fall semester. To apply, interested students should pick up a form at their high school guidance office by April 1.

Additionally, Tri-Boro Rotary offers a vocational scholarship for students from Kinnelon, Butler or Bloomingdale who will be attending a trade school in the fall of 2013. Interested students can pick up an application from their guidance office or apply online.

Community members who are interested in donating to the scholarship funds can mail contributions to the Charles K. Payne Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 125, Butler, NJ, 07405 or Butler/TriBoro Rotary Vocational Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 113, Butler, NJ, 07405.
