Essex County College Women's Center Offers New Classes, Support Group

The women's center has scheduled new workshops, seminars, and a support group, all of which begin this month.

The WISE Women’s Center at Essex County College has scheduled several workshops and seminars that begin in September. All classes are held at the center on the main Newark campus. Call (973) 877-3395 to register for any Women’s Center program.

Women’s Support Group is a four session program designed for those overwhelmed by the responsibilities of life, including putting everyone else’s agenda first. The support group will meet Saturdays, starting September 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Cost is $30 per session.

First Step to Computers is a 10 session course for those who know nothing about computers. The class is set for Tuesdays and Thursdays, startingSeptember 9, from 5:15 to 6:35 p.m. Total cost of the sessions is $165.

Conversational Spanish I will help student learn Spanish vocabulary, develop communication skills and learn various aspects of the Hispanic culture. The class will meet five times on Saturdays, starting September 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Tuition is $100.

Anger Management Workshop is a four session program designed to help participants understand and control anger. The workshop is for people 18 years of age and older. The class will meet Tuesdays, starting September 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $80.

So You Want to be an Entrepreneur is a free, one evening session September 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn how to focus on what it takes to start your own business, including financial aspects, and how your business idea can turn into reality.

Public Speaking with Confidence is a one session class September 25 that explores the importance of communicating effectively as well as expressing one’s self with style and clarity in any situation. The class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $20.

How to Avoid Predatory Lending and Identity Theft is a free workshop on September 25, 6 to 7 p.m. The class is designed to increase awareness of fair housing laws, predatory lending, identity theft and fraudulent financial practices. Participants will receive the latest information on how to avoid becoming a victim of financial fraud and what to do if one becomes a victim.

How to Write a Business Plan is a three session class focusing on examining critical components of a plan for both new and expanding businesses. Participants will learn about numerous strategies designed to successfully operate a business. The class will meet Saturdays, starting September 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuition is $150.
