Girl Scout Awarded Rare Medal of Honor

When Our Lady of the Lake School fourth-grader Olivia Fisher’s father recently suffered a seizure, the Girl Scout did what she does best — she stayed calm and rushed into action, saving her father’s life.

Fisher, a member of the Verona school’s Junior Girl Scout Troop 20515, was recently recognized with the rarely-awarded Medal of Honor given when a girl saves a life after she alerted her mother, called 911, provided the 911 dispatcher with all the pertinent information and helped her father safe until emergency personnel arrived.

Verona LIVE Goes From Free to Fee Saturday

But the free program will end today when grant monies run out. The program will continue next month, but residents will have to pay a $60-per-hour-plus-materials fee to participate.

New Business Sprouts Up in Verona

Dave Chalek is on a mission. He wants to bring fresh, local, sustainable produce to the area - not just in the summertime but year-round.

And he's making progress in accomplishing that goal, opening Sprout Food and Farm in Verona. For local residents and restaurants this means access to fresh, flavorful natural produce all year long. And Chalek’s garden is anything but garden variety as he grows plants with such tantalizing names as long Chinese noodle beans, dragon’s egg hydroponic cucumbers and wickedly hot ghost peppers.
