Police Blotter: Email Harassment, Burglaries, Scrap Metal Arrest

March 23:
At 9:57 a.m., a Claridge Drive resident told Verona police she was being harassed and receiving threatening emails after she listed and sold an item on EBay. The resident said after the sale was completed and she was paid, she decided to cancel the sale and refunded the money to the purchaser and began receiving the emails.

At 10:45 p.m., a Claridge Drive resident told police she received a text message saying she won something online. The text message contained a link to a website and the woman began entering personal information before becoming suspicious and exiting the site. The woman was advised to monitor her credit reports.
March 24:
At 10:19 a.m., police investigated a burglary to a Bloomfield Avenue business. The business owner said a screen was removed from a rear, unlocked window and someone had entered the business. No items were reported missing.

A woman told police she stopped at the Fuel Stop Gas Station on Pompton Avenue for $20 worth of gas. The woman said the attendant was on a cell phone and didn’t pay attention to her request before filling the car with $53 worth or gas and charging it to her credit card. Police investigated and the woman was refunded $33.

A Newark man was arrested at 7:18 p.m. after he was found removing scrap metal from a Bloomfield Avenue property without the owner’s permission.
Anthony Armando told police he had permission to remove the scrap metal, but police contacted the owner, who told them this was not true.
Armando was taken to police headquarters, processed and released after being issued complaints for theft and defiant trespass.
March 25:
At 12:50 p.m., a Durrell Street resident said he bought an item on EBay in November and has neither received the item and nor is he able to contact the seller via email.
March 26:
Verona police and the Verona Rescue Squad responded to the area of Maple Terrace and Forest Avenue on a report of a person who fell at 11:21 a.m. After treatment, the rescue squad transported the victim to St. Barnabas Medical Center.

At 4:45 p.m., police investigated property damage to a Caldwell resident’s car after a tree limb on Linden Avenue fell on her car and damaged to the vehicle’s hood and fender.

Verona police and the Verona Rescue Squad responded to Pilgrim Plaza on a report of a person who fell at 6:52 p.m. After treatment, the rescue squad transported the victim to Mountainside Hospital.
March 27:
A school employee at the H.B. Whithorne School told police at 11:44 a.m. there was damage done to the pole vault mats over the weekend at the school. No damage value was available.

A Hillwood Terrace woman who had just returned from a stay in the hospital of several months, reported someone had stolen several pieces of jewelry during her hospital stay.

Verona police and the Verona Rescue Squad responded to the F.N. Brown School on a report of a person who fell at 5 p.m. The victim sustained cuts to her face and the rescue squad transported her to Mountainside Hospital.
March 28:
A Woodland Avenue resident told police at 11:38 a.m. her boss made inappropriate comments to her while she was at work. She was advised of complaint procedures.

A Rockaway woman told police at 12:15 p.m. she parked her car in the lot at 1 Sunset Ave. and entered the building for a short amount of time. When she returned, several words were scratched into the paint on the passenger side front door.

A West Orange resident told police someone stole the license plates from a leased vehicle he turned into Montclair Acura and he is now receiving tickets from EZ Pass. He was told to contact EZ Pass.
March 29:
At 7:40 p.m., police investigated a burglary to a Hillside Avenue residence. It appears the home was entered through a first-floor bathroom window. Nothing is missing at this time.
