Police Blotter: Harassing Text Messages, Damage to School Equipment

The following information has been provided by the Verona Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 31:
An Elmwood Road resident told police at 1:46 p.m. a former co-worker has been harassing her for the past four years with emails and text messages. She was told about complaint procedures and police contacted the sender and told him to stop all contact with the woman.

April 2:
Verona police and fire officials responded to a car fire on Claremont Avenue. The fire was extinguished. No cause of the fire has been determined.

The custodian of the Forest Avenue School told police at 7:58 a.m. someone damaged an outside water fountain and storage shed at the school. No damage value was known.

A Bloomfield Avenue told police at 8:23 a.m. he loaned money to an employee and the employee has failed to show up for work and has been unreachable since the loan.

Verona police are investigating the theft of a wallet from a woman’s purse at a Bloomfield Avenue business at 12:09 p.m. Police are studying video showing a white woman removing the purse while the victim was in the registration area.

A Stocker Road resident told police at 4:06 p.m. she left some letters in the mailbox for the mailman to pick up. The woman said she went for a walk after leaving the letters and on her return, she saw a white man walking away from her home and leave in a green truck. She then noticed the envelope missing from mailbox.

A Wayne man was arrested at 10:09 p.m. for possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the parking lot of 7-Eleven.

Police saw Nico Stevens leaning over the center console of his car in the parking lot before approaching the car and seeing the controlled dangerous substance. Stevens was arrested and taken to headquarters. He was then issued a complaint and given a court date before being released.

A Leonia man was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and outstanding warrants following a motor vehicle stop on Mount Pleasant Avenue at 11:53 p.m., Verona police said.

A police check found David Christensen was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Bergen County. He was transported to headquarters, processed and turned over to Bergen County sheriff’s officers.
