Two Die In Parkway Accident In Wall After Stopping On Road

Two Toms River men, who were stopped on the Garden State Parkway in Wall, died Sunday after they were struck by another vehicle.

WALL, NJ — Two Toms River men, ages 75 and 57, stopped on the Garden State Parkway in Wall died Sunday after their SUV was struck by a Jeep proceeding north on the roadway, state police said.

The accident happened on the parkway northbound at 1:31 p.m. at milepost 97.7 in Wall, police said.

State police say a preliminary investigation shows that a Jeep Wrangler driven by Christopher Mulholland, 24, of Belmar, was traveling northbound in the right lane of the Garden State Parkway.

Jerome Digiovanni, 75, of Toms River, was operating a Chevrolet Equinox in the right shoulder, stopped partially in the right travel lane of the parkway. Pedestrian Ronald Devingo, 57, also of Toms River, was standing directly on the left side of the Equinox, state police said.

The right side of the Jeep struck the left side of the Equinox and also Devingo, causing fatal injuries to both Digiovanni and Devingo, state police said. Mulholland sustained minor injuries.

State police are investigating the accident and did not have information immediately available on the relationship of the two men or about the reason they were stopped.
