Wall Township Police Ask for Residents and Businesses to Clearly Post Address

The Wall Township Police are asking residents and business owners to help improve response time for emergency services.

In an effort to improve emergency services (police, fire and first aid) response time, the Wall Township Police Department is asking all township residents and business owners to clearly post their street address in an area visible from the road on which it fronts. Emergency services are continually experiencing delays in rendering aid because homes and businesses are not clearly numbered.

Residential numbers should be no less than two inches high and one inch wide. Non-residential buildings are required to have numbers no less than six inches high and two inches wide. Residents can refer to Township Ordinance 79.1 and 140-123 for further information, according to Chief Robert Brice.

The Wall Township Police say they recognize that there are sections of town that have their post office assigned numbers (normally one to three digits) affixed to their homes, light posts or fence. The police department is not asking that these numbers be removed, only that tax-assessed house numbers, usually a four digit number, be posted as well. If a resident were to call 911 for an emergency, their four digit tax assessed number would appear on the emergency dispatchers screen, not their post office assigned number, according to Brice.

“It is the goal of all emergency service workers everywhere to respond as quickly as possible. Clearly posting street addresses certainly assists in improving response time. Seconds and minutes wasted may lead to the loss of life and property,” Chief Brice said.
