Wine Fundraiser For Injured Football Player In Manasquan

Spirit of 76 in Manasquan will donate $10 for every bottle of Beach Badge wine sold through the weekend for the Van Trease family fund.

MANASQUAN, NJ — A wine and spirits store in town is raising funds this weekend for the Aaron Van Trease family with a special donation when customers purchase a bottle of Beach Badge wine.

The Spirit of 76 store, 119 Taylor Ave., is donating $10 of for every bottle of the wine sold through this weekend to support Aaron's recovery.

Van Trease, 18, a quarterback for Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, suffered a spinal injury at the beginning of a Sept. 23 game. He is recovering at RWJ Barnabas Hospital in New Brunswick.

The Beach Badge wine is on a special sale at $39.99, according to the store's flyer. The wine comes in a custom-etched, hand-painted bottle that can be displayed or given as a gift.

Ever since the accident, the greater community has come to his and his family's support with a variety of fundraisers and donations to help with the family medical bills.

The Saint John Vianney Lancers quarterback has heard from football greats, such as Tom Brady, who offered words of encouragement. And other video greetings from former pros can be found on the Saint John Vianney Facebook site. The site also has T-shirts for sale to help raise funds.

A GoFundMe site was set up by Manasquan neighbor Lindsay Scollo and has raised more than $159,000 as of Friday.
