WARREN, NJ — A fundraiser has been established for a Warren Township teacher and his family eagerly awaiting a new heart.

A GoFundMe established Wednesday is collecting donations for the Speckin family, who currently make “countless” trips to New York City’s Columbia Presbyterian hospital where patriarch Kevin has been living while awaiting a heart transplant.

“He cannot come home until that has been accomplished,” the fundraising page reads. “For now, the doctors, nurses & equipment are keeping his heart beating until he can get his new heart.”

While an initial PayPal fundraiser for the family has since met its goal of $20,000, the new GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to cover additional travel expenses and kids’ needs while their father is in the hospital.

“Due to the amazing generosity and support shown by the community, we wanted to create another place for those that would like to support the Speckin family,” the fundraiser reads. “The love shown is amazing. Thank you to those who continue to support this amazing family.”
