Husband, Wife Duo To Open New Swim School On Somerset And Union County Border
Samer and Mirna Abraham will be opening a franchise location of Big Blue Swim School at the Watchung Square Mall.
WATCHUNG, NJ — After sending their five-year-old daughter to swim lessons, Watchung husband and wife duo Samer and Mirna Abraham decided to take action into their own hands and open their own swim school.
The Abrahams will be opening a franchise location of Big Blue Swim School at the Watchung Square Mall at 1515 Route 22. They are hoping to open sometime in 2022. This new location will mark the second Big Blue Swim School in New Jersey, with the first signed lease in Paramus.
"We couldn't be more excited. Both as entrepreneurs and parents, we view Big Blue as a meeting at the crossroads of providing a critical life skill and giving us the opportunity to open a business in a fulfilling space. What could be more rewarding than putting a smile on a child's face seeing what they can accomplish through swimming while knowing that you’ve helped to prevent a leading cause of fatality for children?" said the Abrahams.

Samer graduated from Rutgers with a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry and computer science, sparking a career path in software engineering and development while Mirna has spent the past 10 years working as a healthcare provider.
For years, the two had considered franchising as a way to start a business of their own, but the right opportunity never seemed to develop. Then, after sending their five-year-old daughter to swim lessons and becoming frustrated with the lack of safe options and inattentive staff, the two realized that Big Blue offered a solution to their problems that other local parents would benefit from.

"As busy working parents, we struggle with managing time and life’s mini emergencies while trying to give our children the best opportunities to learn and grow. It became very clear to us that many of the advances in other areas of life had not quite made their 'splash' in the swim school industry which was still operating on dated technology and located in out-of-the-way destinations. These were massive inconveniences introduced into our already hectic lifestyle. We thought that a better experience for parents and children alike didn’t exist, but then along came Big Blue with its proprietary LessonBuddy™ software," said the Abrahams.
The Abrahams really liked that Big Blue Swim School gave parents control over their schedules with its parent portal available through the LessonBuddy website and mobile app. The program makes scheduling, rebooking, billing, and more quick and easy for a busy parent.
"Most parents have more than one child taking swimming lessons at the same time. Big Blue’s larger pools and advanced scheduling system allows parents to find optimal time slots where both kids can take their lessons at the same time, hitting two birds with one stone," said the Abrahams.
The program also offers parents insight into a child’s progress.
For these reasons, the Abrahams are excited for their opening sometime in the third quarter of 2022.
